Blocked sink

Problem:

Sink is blocked.  Water refuses to go down the plug hole and just remains in the sink.

Diagnosis:

If this sink is the only one that’s blocked then you know it’s more than likely a problem with that particular sink and not the entire drainage system. 

Solution:

You can try to use a conventional household chemical sink unblocker, plunger or a pump to clear the blockage, but usually what’s needed is someone to remove the trap beneath the drain plug hole where any debris may have collected.  It’s often best to hire a professional to do this to ensure that the blockages have been cleared thoroughly.

Kitchen sink won’t drain

Problem:

Kitchen sink won’t drain or drains very slowly.

Diagnosis:

This is a common enough problem and usually it’s due to a drain blockage.  However on some occasions it has also been known to be a result of corroded pipes.  If a conventional drain unblocker doesn’t solve the problem, or it persists then you need to call an expert to do some further diagnosis.

Bath won’t drain

Problem:

A blocked drain in the bath tub.  This is when your bath water drains away very slowly, or sometimes not at all.  This is a pretty common problem and can be easily fixed.

Diagnosis:

This usually occurs due to an accumulation of elements along the drainpipe coming from the base of your bath.  These elements include dirt, soap scum, grease and clogged hair from the bath over a prolonged period of use.  You could try to clean it out with conventional cleaners but it’s sometimes necessary to call someone to dismantle it to make sure it’s completely clear and replaced, airtight and ready for use.
